Jutting out of the bottom of Dorset is the famous and infamous Isle of Portland in the middle of the Jurassic Coast and attached to Weymouth by a thin causeway. The northern edge helps form Portland Harbour which is to be the venue for the 2012 Olympics Sailing Events which has helped put the Isle of Portland on the map.

Portland also is renowned for being the home of choice for many local Artists because of it’s clear air and excellent light quality which is helped by the light being reflected all over the island by the light gray stone. This stone, once quarried, has helped form the most famous buildings in London such as St. Pauls Cathedral and many others.
Another very famous landmark, certainly around the sailing community who sail the English Channel, is Portland Bill, home of the much-photographed Lighthouse. If you visit the Isle of Portland then the Lighthouse at Portland Bill is a must!
